How to Make an Inexpensive Faux Tree Look Beautiful: Amazon Hacks

In a hurry? Shop this Inexpensive Faux Tree Look Good here!

You do not need a Pottery Barn budget to get a beautiful, designer-looking faux tree in your home. I say that confidently because every faux tree in my house that gets compliments is actually inexpensive, and most are from Amazon.

Once you understand a few simple tricks, you can take almost any minimal faux tree and make it look taller, fuller, and far more expensive than it actually is.

Let me walk you through it step by step.

Step 1: Start With a Tall, Classic Planter

Your planter matters more than you think.

I always choose something tall with clean lines and a neutral finish. A classic planter instantly elevates the tree and grounds it visually in the space. If your planter is too short or too decorative, the whole look can feel off.

This step alone already pushes the tree toward a more designer look.

Step 2: Add an Adjustable Plant Stand for Height

This is one of my favorite Amazon design hacks.

I place an adjustable plant stand inside the planter, which adds anywhere from 11 to 17 inches of height. This turns a standard 7-foot faux tree into something that feels closer to 8 feet, which makes a huge difference visually.

Taller trees automatically feel more intentional and more expensive. This one step completely changes the scale.

Step 3: Drop the Faux Tree Into the Stand

Once the stand is secure, I place the faux tree directly on top. This keeps the trunk stable and centered while giving me that extra height I want.

Minimal faux trees work best here because they look more realistic once styled and fluffed.

Step 4: Fill the Planter for a Finished Look

This is where the magic really happens.

I use brown packing paper to fill the empty space around the stand and tree base. Once that is packed in firmly, I top everything with dried moss.

The result looks natural, layered, and intentional. No visible plastic pots. No fake soil. Just a clean, finished base that feels high-end.

Step 5: Fluff and Straighten the Branches

Do not skip this step.

I take time to gently bend, separate, and straighten the branches. I step back often and adjust as I go. Faux trees always look better when they are slightly imperfect and asymmetrical.

This final fluffing step is what takes the tree from looking store-bought to styled.
